February 4 - readings for Feb 6

Mark 9:22 It has often thrown him into fire or water to destroy him. But if you are able to do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

Mark 9:31-32 for he was teaching his disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man will be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.” But they did not understand this statement and were afraid to ask him.

Job 5:19 He will deliver you from six calamities;
yes, in seven no evil will touch you.
Note: The use of a numerical ladder as we have here - "six // seven" is frequent in wisdom literature to show completeness. See Prov 6:16; Amos 1:3, Mic 5:5. A number that seems to be sufficient for the point is increased by one, as if to say there is always one more. By using this Eliphaz simply means "in all troubles"

Romans 9:6 It is not as though the word of God had failed. For not all those who are descended from Israel are truly Israel,
